What is methylene blue?
Methylene blue, also known as methylthioninium chloride, is a synthetic compound first prepared by German chemist Heinrich Caro in 1876.
It was originally developed as a dye and was later adopted in pharmaceutical and scientific applications.
Why quality testing matters
The term “USP grade” is widely used in the methylene blue market, but the testing behind the claim can vary substantially. Many sellers provide only a heavy-metal screening panel and present it as evidence of pharmaceutical-grade quality.
This testing provides no information about harmful organic impurities, residues left from manufacturing, microbial levels, or bacterial endotoxins.
