Product and quality
Where can I buy Blupreme Methylene Blue?
Blupreme Methylene Blue can be purchased directly from blupreme.com and from authorised retailers listed on our website.
Why should I choose Blupreme Methylene Blue?
Blupreme is tested against the full applicable USP–NF Methylene Blue monograph, relevant residual-solvent requirements, and additional quality requirements. The finished 1% solution is manufactured and bottled in Lithuania under GMP standards and contains USP-grade methylene blue and purified water without additives or preservatives.
What does USP-grade methylene blue mean?
USP–NF is a recognised pharmaceutical quality standard. A supported USP-grade claim requires compliance with all applicable monograph and general requirements, including identity, assay, organic impurities, and other relevant quality controls, not only a heavy-metal screening panel.
Should I buy methylene blue powder or a prepared solution?
Powder may cost less to package and transport, but it requires accurate weighing, liquid measurement, and mixing. Blupreme’s 1% aqueous solution is ready-made, so no powder weighing or solution preparation is required.
What does a 1% methylene blue solution mean?
A 1% weight-per-volume solution contains 1 gram of methylene blue per 100 mL of solution. This is equivalent to 10 mg per millilitre.
What does a 0.1% methylene blue solution mean?
A 0.1% weight-per-volume solution contains 1 gram of methylene blue per litre of solution. Blupreme’s methylene blue solution has a concentration of 1%, not 0.1%.
How should Blupreme’s methylene blue solution be stored?
Store the bottle upright, protected from light, and below 25 °C. Keep it out of reach of children and use it before the best-before date printed on the packaging.
Is a dropper included with the bottle?
Yes. Each bottle is supplied with a graduated dropper pipette marked at 0.25 mL, 0.5 mL, and 1 mL for controlled dispensing.
Approximately how many drops of the 1% solution contain 1 mg of methylene blue?
Approximately two drops contain 1 mg of methylene blue, and ten drops contain approximately 5 mg. Drop size can vary depending on how the dropper is held and used.
Why does the solution appear almost black inside the bottle?
Methylene blue absorbs light strongly. This can make the dark blue solution appear almost black inside the bottle.
Testing and quality
What is a certificate of analysis?
A certificate of analysis, or COA, is a batch-specific laboratory document. It identifies the tested material, batch number, quality specifications, test results, and whether the batch met the stated requirements.
Where can I find a methylene blue certificate of analysis?
Open the Quality Testing page and follow the batch-record instructions. Match the batch number on your bottle to the listed ingredient batch and its certificate of analysis. Contact us if you cannot find the record.
Can I review information about Blupreme’s quality testing?
Yes. The Quality Testing page explains the tests performed, the applicable specifications, and what the results demonstrate.
Is every production batch tested?
Yes. Each batch is tested against defined ingredient and finished-product specifications before release.
Who performs the quality testing?
Testing is performed by our laboratory partner in Lithuania using defined methods and acceptance limits.
What is the difference between heavy-metal screening and full USP–NF testing?
Heavy-metal screening measures selected elemental contaminants but provides no information about assay, Azure B, other organic impurities, residual solvents, microbial levels, or bacterial endotoxins. Full testing assesses the material against the broader requirements for identity, methylene blue content, purity, and microbiological quality.
What is Azure B, and why is it important?
Azure B is a named organic impurity and unwanted manufacturing by-product in methylene blue. The USP–NF monograph sets a specific maximum limit. Heavy-metal testing cannot detect Azure B. Measuring Azure B provides information about purification that heavy-metal testing cannot provide.
What are organic impurities?
Organic impurities are chemically related substances that can arise during ingredient manufacturing or degradation. Testing covers specified impurities such as Azure B, unspecified individual impurities, and the total amount of other impurities.
What are residual solvents?
Residual solvents are volatile chemicals that may remain after ingredient manufacturing. Testing determines whether specified solvents are present and whether their levels remain within defined limits.
What does “residue on ignition/sulfated ash” mean?
The residue on ignition test, also called the sulfated ash test, measures non-volatile inorganic material remaining after a sample is burned under controlled conditions. It is different from residual-solvent testing.
Which elemental impurities and heavy metals are tested?
Blupreme elemental-impurity testing covers lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury. These results form one part of the overall quality assessment.
What does microbial testing measure?
Microbial testing measures the total counts of aerobic microorganisms and of yeasts and moulds. It also checks for specified organisms such as E. coli.
What are bacterial endotoxins?
Bacterial endotoxins are substances associated with the outer membranes of certain bacteria. Endotoxin testing detects contamination that may not be identified through ordinary microbial-count testing.
What does the methylene blue assay result show?
The assay measures how much methylene blue is present in the tested ingredient and compares the result with the applicable USP–NF acceptance range.
Why can two products claim to be USP grade while providing different test reports?
The term is sometimes used without evidence of complete USP–NF testing. A proper claim should be supported by results demonstrating compliance with all applicable monograph and general requirements, not only one selected category of contaminants.
Manufacturing and formulation
What does GMP manufacturing mean?
Good Manufacturing Practice is a controlled production system covering personnel, facilities, equipment, materials, records, hygiene, quality control, deviations, and batch release. GMP manufacturing does not replace product testing. Both are required.
What type of purified water is used?
Blupreme’s methylene blue solution contains purified water prepared for controlled product manufacturing and tested against defined chemical and microbiological limits. The formulation contains no alcohol, flavourings, sweeteners, additives, or preservatives.
Can you provide third-party non-GMO certification for Blupreme?
We do not currently have third-party non-GMO certification for Blupreme.
Storage and handling
Does the bottle need to be refrigerated?
No. Store the bottle upright, protected from light, and below 25 °C. Do not place it in direct sunlight or near a heat source.
How long can the solution be stored after opening?
Keep the bottle securely closed and use it before the best-before date printed on the packaging. We do not currently specify a separate time limit for using the solution after opening the bottle. Discard it if the original seal was damaged or the solution develops an unexpected change in appearance.
Can heat or freezing damage the solution?
Prolonged heat, direct light, or freezing can affect the bottle or product quality. Store Blupreme below 25 °C and do not freeze it.
How can I avoid contaminating the dropper?
Do not allow the dropper to touch your hands, mouth, work surfaces, or other objects. Return it to the bottle immediately after use and close the bottle securely.
How should methylene blue spills be cleaned?
Absorb a spill immediately with disposable material, rinse the affected surface with cold water, and clean it with an appropriate detergent. Do not mix cleaning chemicals. Test any method on an inconspicuous area because methylene blue can stain permanently.
Can methylene blue stain skin, clothing, or surfaces?
Yes. Methylene blue is a strong dye and can stain skin, clothing, worktops, grout, and other porous materials. Handle the bottle carefully and protect surrounding surfaces.
Can I travel with the bottle in hand luggage?
A 100 mL bottle meets the standard EU limit for an individual liquid container in hand luggage. Keep it tightly closed in its original packaging and confirm current airport and airline requirements before travelling.
Regulatory status and safety
What is the interaction risk between methylene blue and medicines that increase serotonin?
Methylene blue is a potent reversible monoamine oxidase inhibitor. Combining it with medicines that increase serotonin can cause serotonin syndrome.
Why is G6PD deficiency relevant to methylene blue?
In people with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, methylene blue can cause the destruction of red blood cells, called haemolysis. Approved pharmaceutical methylene blue is contraindicated in people with G6PD deficiency.
